The Neighborhood Sun team was excited to participate again this year in the Chesapeake Climate Action Network’s 15th annual “Keep Winter Cold” Polar Bear Plunge. Overall, the goal of the event was to raise $160,000 to combat climate change, specifically in the Chesapeake Bay area, but we are happy to announce this goal was exceeded and $161,296.71 was raised.
Our team, which we like to call the “Solar Bears,” was also excited to surpass our fundraising goal of $2,500, by raising $2,622 for our community and local environment. However, Sales Manager Armando Gaetaniello was happiest of all for winning our challenge and raising the most of anyone on our team!
Congressman Jamie Raskin of MD-08 kicked off the event, which he referred to as his “Annual Environmental Baptism.” Raskin gave very inspiring words regarding the battle to end climate change and reminded us that “if there is no struggle, there is no progress,” which Frederick Douglass said in 1857. On the morning of the 25th our struggle was wading into the icy waters of the Potomac, but we are ready to dive into new challenges in order to bring a greener future to the Chesapeake and the planet.
Delegate Lorig Charkoudian, known for helping pass a Clean Energy Jobs act her first year in the General Assembly also spoke. Charkoudian talked about her experience with lobbyists from Oil and Coal companies but reminded us how we have the people and that makes us so much stronger! On top of her legislative accomplishments she makes Neighborhood Sun stronger by being on of our Panorama subscribers!
