DOGWOOD ROAD COMMUNITY SOLAR PROJECT IS FULLY SUBSCRIBED AND READY TO START GENERATING CLEAN ENERGY!
Neighborhood Sun completes enrolling nearly 600 households in BG&E service area for
clean, renewable electricity from Baltimore County project
Baltimore, MD – Neighborhood Sun, a Maryland based B Corporation, announced today that it has completed enrollment for the Dogwood Community Solar project in Baltimore County. The project is 3.8 megawatts in capacity, providing 100% clean solar electricity to nearly 600 households in the BG&E service area, which covers central Maryland and Anne Arundel county. The project was built over the past six months in Baltimore County and is just outside the Patapsco Valley State Park in the Owings Mills area and has just recently begun producing power.
Through a pilot program that is overseen by the Maryland Public Service Commission – Community, or shared solar, allows electricity consumers to purchase solar from a local project, with no need to install equipment on their homes. They get virtual solar net metering credits, which means they get practically the same benefits as rooftop solar. The Dogwood project will produce 4,900,000 kilowatt-hours of solar power a year, offsetting about 3,820 tons of carbon and other air pollutants. That’s equal to taking 736 cars off the road or planting 57,000 trees grown for 10 years.*
The project was developed by Arlington-based Summit Ridge Energy and is one of the first community solar projects in the BG&E area to come online.
“This project not only helps Marylanders save on their energy costs, it produces clean, renewable energy right here in Baltimore County, bringing jobs, tax dollars, and cleaner air to all of us,” said Gary Skulnik, Neighborhood Sun’s founder and CEO. “Finally, Marylanders have a solar solution that works for everyone, not just the select few.”
