Former Landfill Becomes Maryland’s First Large-Scale Community Solar Farm

Solar energy is clean and green. It doesn’t produce greenhouse gases, but large-scale solar does take up land — land that could be put to other uses, like forests or farms — and several proposed solar projects in the region have hit roadblocks, because they would require cutting trees.

A new solar farm in Prince George’s County wasn’t built on farmland or in a forest, but is instead atop an old landfill. (Read more…)
