Gary is a senior executive and strategic thinker who has been a leader in developing the clean energy market in Maryland and Washington, DC, through innovative marketing, partnerships, business management, and legislative advocacy. He is the founder of two entities focused exclusively on marketing clean energy, Clean Currents, a socially responsible for-profit and the Clean Energy Partnership, a nonprofit. As President of Clean Currents, Gary ran the entire sales and marketing side of the business, which grew to reach $22mm in annual revenue. Most importantly, Gary developed and managed the Clean Currents brand, which became the strongest, most authentic green brand in the energy space in the Mid Atlantic. He has appeared in numerous media outlets and been an active public speaker on sustainability, clean energy, reaching green-minded consumers, as well as other topics.
A software development expert and renewable energy innovator, John Wilson brings 25 years experience in IT management. Before working with Neighborhood Sun John was part of the team that started Bullfrog Power, as VP Operations, where he was responsible for all IT and software development for 14 years.
Prior to Bullfrog Power, John held several senior technology positions at Fidelity National Information Services Wealth Management Division where he defined and developed an enterprise desktop and wireless wealth management solution.
Cara oversees our sales team as well as our Community Partnership Program. Cara joined Astrum in 2010 and served as Sales Manager of NY. Prior to Astrum, Cara worked at the forefront of commercial energy efficiency & the hybrid vehicle industry.
With her passion for environmental justice and climate change mitigation and adaptation, Emily is committed to being a key player in global, positive change. She received a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies and communication from Stonehill College, and a master’s degree in engineering, science, and technology entrepreneurship from the University of Notre Dame. While at Notre Dame, Emily worked with ND-GAIN to create a business that would provide city officials and business professionals with the means to successfully acquire and allocate resources for the implementation of climate change adaptation solutions in their respective communities.
Emily joined Neighborhood Sun as the first full-time hire back in 2017. During her time here she has worn many hats, ranging from community engagement, to digital & physical marketing, to project & office management.
Fred brings over a decade of Renewable Energy experience to the team. Fred attended Pace University and earned a Business degree from Mercy College. Embracing the environmental significance of renewables, while translating the benefits into simple economics, Fred delivers a clear and compelling message: “Green is Good!” for business and our economy.
Christina is a recent graduate from the University of Maryland who earned her degree in Environmental Science and Technology with a concentration in Environmental Health. Previously, she has worked at two different labs which focused on improving best management practices as well as researching the effects of toxins on aquatic life. Her passion towards fighting climate change and a desire to help her local community lead her to Neighborhood Sun, where she supports both the Sales Team and the Customer Engagement Team to ensure that subscribers have a smooth transition process into clean energy.
She is very excited to apply her previous experiences and her strong background in renewable energy to help folks learn and experience all of the many benefits of community solar and provide them with all of the help that they may need.
Throughout her career, Janani has shown a passion for helping others. She began her career in teaching to an international audience with experience teaching ESL in the US, Germany, and India. She possesses two B.A. degrees in English and International Studies from Virginia Tech, and she completed her M.A. in ethics in 2020 in Bochum, Germany. She’s worked in the sustainability field on projects involving sustainable horticulture, alternative protein sources, and responsible research innovation. Janani speaks English, German, and French and has a range of working and volunteering experiences across the world. Her goal is to educate consumers on environmentally friendly choices that are manageable and affordable.
Prior to joining the company, Jade worked as a values-driven team leader in PwC, focusing on technology, media, and telecommunications industries.
Jade earned Msc Management degree from Imperial College London and MS Business Analytics degree from Arizona State University.
Stephanie is passionate about conserving natural spaces, reducing waste and combatting greenwashing. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill with a B.A. in environmental studies and a M.A. in strategic communications, she applied insights from her research in green marketing and corporate sustainability to start her own consulting business. All of her work is driven by a deep and passionate belief that businesses should leverage their influential role in society to make sustainable options not only accessible, but also desirable and convenient. At Neighborhood Sun, Stephanie is thrilled to apply her skills and passion to help empower individuals to save money and source their energy from renewables while accelerating their entire community’s transition to clean energy. Her role at Neighborhood Sun includes overseeing our certification as a B Corp, tracking internal sustainability efforts/goals, and developing impact-related communication strategies.
Zach‘s career had been in the private sector, in both sales and management across a wide range of businesses. However, he always worked to help out beyond his career. He has a long history of volunteering in various community-driven organizations. These endeavors included Habitat for Humanity, helping to run a summer camp, founding a fraternity dedicated to collegial excellence and serving the community, and most recently he co-leads a local girl scout troop and is part of Greenbelt Climate Action Network. He decided that all of his efforts in volunteer work were important enough to him that he needed to change careers and work towards a better tomorrow, full-time. This eventually led him to Neighborhood Sun, where his unique background and drive to help has been an asset to his role as Customer Engagement Champion and Event Coordinator.

One reason why Jovita is passionate about working at Neighborhood Sun is because she gets the opportunity to be a part of a growing team that is focused on providing opportunities for local communities to participate in promoting clean energy and sustainability. Another reason is that Neighborhood Sun is a B Corp. The company is not only about profit but believes in contributing to the well-being of people and the environment, which is something that she can get behind. Jovita enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is currently working on a few creative projects during her spare time and is developing her cooking skills. Jovita likes scrolling on Pinterest for fashion and beauty pins, health tips and food recipes. Also, she enjoys watching reality TV shows during weeknights.
Natalia is really passionate about fighting climate change and having a more sustainable lifestyle. She’s worked on different industries like construction, sustainable fashion and sustainable tourism.
And in the last few years she’s been a part of the sales teams for different start-ups in the US.
Sam Knight is a Baltimore Maryland Native who always had a passion for helping families elevate their financial knowledge and improve the quality of their living environment. Having experienced the emotional and economic damage upon others due to limited resources, and urban blight he feels that it is his responsibility and mission to help others to find actionable solutions to elevate their circumstance.
After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Constitutional Law in 2006 he has obtained several years of experience in the non-profit sector bridging community stakeholders to local resources.
Currently he works as a Program Manager for Neighborhood Sun, a Benefit Corporation based in Silver Spring Maryland where he is happy to address the dangers of climate change, air pollution and the long term effects it will have on future generations if we do not utilize advances in clean energy.
Matty has spent more than two decades committing his talents and creativity to progressive causes, primarily in the environmental and conservation arenas. Over those years he has worked for, or on behalf of, dozens of non profit organizations as a communications specialist, organizer, trainer, development manager, fundraiser and organizer, both at the local level to some of the most recognized international groups. Although his education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute was in Environmental Engineering, Matty has committed his efforts to the engagement and empowerment of individuals to take actions for the causes that have direct impact on their lives. When he is not striving to promote community solar projects, Matty is most likely trying his best not to be found in the beautiful wilderness of western Maryland, along with his family and dog, Jude.

With over 25 years of experience in software development in the green energy and financial services sectors, Scott brings a wealth of experience to the team. As one of the first employees at Bullfrog Power, Scott was responsible for the development of all customer management software including a custom signup process, a personalized and secure customer support portal, billing, and all third party integrations.
Sean is an IT generalist who is interested in all things technology from the latest hardware news to parsing logs trying to solve those difficult issue. He is from Toronto, Canada and attended the University of Guelph where his studies focused on Psychology and Sociology. While mostly holding Systems Administrator positions, he has also worked as a Security Analyst and Software Support/Integration Specialist to round out his experience. At Neighborhood Sun Sean will help steer the company towards IT tools and systems that will allow everyone to work efficiently and securely.
Sunny has a Master degree in Business Analysis from Tulane University and a Bachelor degree in Accounting & Finance from The University of Auckland.
With five years plus working experience with fast-growing industries, Sunny is well-attuned to business operations and is proficient in accounting/finance. She is a multi-tasks team player and a core support center for the company.
Bill Bumpers is an attorney with over 30 years of experience in the electric industry, representing utilities, independent power producers and investment firms. He structured one of the first multi-pollutant emission contracts in the United States and has worked on numerous GHG emissions trading projects around the world. He is on the advisory board of the American Carbon Registry.
Satish directs Mtech Ventures where he leads technology commercialization efforts at UMD. He works with faculty and graduate students to move innovations from the lab to the market place. The UMD incubator has graduated over 120 technology startups over the last 30 years including several successful exits via NASDAQ. He also manages the Chesapeake Bay Seed Capital Fund on behalf of the Maryland Department of Natural resources by investing in companies that improve the water quality in the Bay.
Satish has a background in private equity and technology infrastructure investments for AIG’s Asian Infrastructure Funds ($2 Billion) where he directed over $500 million investments in technology companies in China, India, and Far Eastern emerging markets. Satish also founded US-Asia Ventures, a company that structured and funded cross-border investment opportunities in Asia and the US. He previously worked in satellite communications for INTELSAT where he managed R&D projects for on-board satellite switched TDMA systems. His prior background is in semiconductor fabrication for Texas Instruments. He has a Batchelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from GW
University, and Master’s in Engineering Management from Stanford University. He has also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
John Paul Moscarella (“JP”) is an entrepreneur, who has founded or co-founded four (4) companies, including Emerging Energy & Environment (EEE), a fund management platform, and Econergy International (“Econergy”), a renewable developer with 260 MW (190 MW net) at the time of its sale in 2008 to GDF Suez (now Engie), one of the largest utilities in the world, which had an IPO in 2006 on the London AIM Market raising over US$100 million. He was a leading executive for several clean energy companies, as well as a fund manager for two small private equity/venture capital funds. Fundraised for start-up companies, and raised capital and advisory in the formation of several private equity clean energy funds or specialized environmental carbon funds, for approximately US$770 million in total capital.
Shari Friedman leads Eurasia Group’s Climate and Sustainability practice, focusing on environmental and social policies and trends affecting energy companies, industrial production, retail, supply chains, technology companies, agribusiness, and financial institutions. Shari and the team work across regions and sectors to help clients understand the evolving policies and how they will affect client’s business today and in the future.
Prior to joining Eurasia group, Shari worked in climate and sustainability for over 25 years. She began working for the U.S. government during the Kyoto negotiations and moved to venture capital, consulting and banking. Most recently Shari worked at IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, where she led corporate-wide climate strategy and managed a team of industry specialists focused on renewable energy, green buildings, battery storage, sustainable waste, electric vehicles, low-carbon cities, and emerging green technologies such as hydrogen and CCSU. Shari received a bachelor’s degree in political science and music from Tufts University, and a masters in public policy from Georgetown University. She has received course training in finance and capital markets, as well as solar PV and wind installation and biodiesel production.
Kim Kolt, 36, is the Founder & President of For Good Ventures, an investment company backing disruptive, exceptional technologies benefiting humanity and the environment. Investment categories include clean tech and other climate technologies, health, education, financial accessibility and diversity.
Prior to For Good Ventures, Kim worked at Goldman Sachs in their Technology, Media and Telecom Investment Banking Groups in San Francisco and Los Angeles, and Deutsche Bank Mergers & Acquisitions Group in NYC. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and received her MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Kim has held designations including USGBC LEED, CCIM, and Series 79 license.
Kim is also a board member of Turntide Technoligies, Legends of Learning, and the Sustainable Ocean Alliance. She is an advisor to impact-focused companies, funds and nonprofits. Meirav is a specialty finance and fintech investment executive with demonstrated success in mergers and acquisitions as well as debt and equity raise. She has raised over $60 billion of capital for different companies. Meirav is currently a managing director at M.A. Advisory Services LLC where she provides strategic advice to C-suite executives and leadership of specialty finance and financial technology companies. Prior to that, she worked at Piper Sandler in the investment banking group, at Deutsche Bank investment banking, and at Merrill Lynch Investment Banking. Meirav also served in the Israeli Defense Force (Intelligence Service – Unit 8200). She obtained her undergraduate degree from Tel Aviv University School of Economics. and received her MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
