Solar Helps Advance Resident Equality

Finally, the power of the sun belongs to everyone, not just a privileged few. Thanks to state legislation, those who historically have the smallest carbon footprints can now save hundreds of dollars annually on their electric bills.

The best is that it does not require a roof, home ownership, or any solar installation at home. Plus, there are no additional costs or fees, so no headaches!

Note: Legal documents will refer to this opportunity as serving “Low- and Moderate-Income” or “LMI” households.

Neighbor Benefit Fund

Supporting our community members will always be our #1 goal.
As a Benefit Corporation, supporting our neighbors is our top-priority. Whether it’s through environmental justice, fostering connections, or building economic resilience, we are here to serve.

We understand that certain unforeseen circumstances can create financial challenges for individuals and families. That’s why we established the Neighbor Benefit Fund to support our community members during difficult times.

Frequently asked questions

Neighborhood Sun has made a commitment to contribute 1% of our revenue to the Neighbor Benefit Fund, effective April 2020, and continuing on a quarterly basis. As our company acquires additional community solar subscribers, we will see the fund grow. Going forward, we intend to expand the fund and we are exploring the possibilities of formalizing it as a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization so our partners and subscribers will have the opportunity to contribute as well.

In June, 2020, we will open the Fund for applicants. There will be a simple form on our web-site under the SHARE program page. We will divide up the grants for assistance according to the number of applications we receive each quarter, pro-rated by the number of people in the household. As we grow and acquire more community solar subscribers, we will be able to provide more applicants with greater financial packages.

While anyone can apply, we will prioritize assisting our SHARE program subscribers. We understand that there are numerous challenges throughout life and we want to help support our neighbors during these times. If you apply, we will honor your word and work to support you–no questions asked.

Each quarter, we will award grants to every valid application, though the amounts of the grants will vary based on the number of people in the household and whether the applicant is a SHARE program subscriber.

Providing our community with a supporting fund has been a goal of Neighborhood Solar on our list since the day we were founded, and we’re proud that we are now in a position to contribute a portion of our revenue to the Neighbor Benefit Fund. We intend to grow and expand this fund as much as possible so that we can continue supporting our neighbors through any difficult times that may lie ahead.

If your application is approved during the review period at the end of the quarter, we will notify you via email and adjust your next community solar bill accordingly.

This is all dependent on the number of applicants for that month, and how much revenue we earn–which is directly related to how many new community solar customers we acquire. In some cases, we may be able to cover your entire community solar bill, and other times we might cover a portion of the bill. Our commitment is to cover as much as we can, for as many customers as we can.

While we are not at this stage yet, we do plan to grow the fund and maintain it as a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization. Once we achieve this, you will be able to donate to the fund and write it off as a tax deduction.

If you’re interested in contributing to the fund in the future, we have created a temporary GoFundMe page to collect donations until the fund is an established 501 (c)(3) organization. Additionally, you can contact Matty Guerin at [email protected] for more information. Thank you for your interest in supporting your neighbors.

Please contact Matty Guerin at [email protected] and we will work to get you the information you need about the Neighbor Benefit Fund.
